The Burn Prevention Network (BPN) is proud to introduce our newest board members—Cheryl Johnson, Beau Crowding, Chas McGarvey, and the return of Steve Schneider! These dedicated professionals bring a wealth of experience and passion to our mission of burn prevention, education, and survivor support. Get to know more about them below!

Steve Schneider

Steve is no stranger to BPN, having previously served on our board from 2016 to 2023. With over 45 years in fire protection and firefighting, he brings deep expertise and commitment to our cause. Steve currently manages the Explosion Suppression Systems group at Kistler-O’Brien Fire Protection and has volunteered as a firefighter since 1978, including 11 years as Fire Chief. His dedication extends to Camp Susquehanna, where he has volunteered since 2015, serving in leadership roles that support young burn survivors.

What inspires Steve about BPN? Steve’s connection to fire prevention and survivor support began early in his life, witnessing firsthand the devastating impact of fire. His work with burn survivor programs and Camp Susquehanna solidified his dedication to BPN’s mission.

Outside of BPN: Steve enjoys teaching firefighting classes, especially high-risk, live fire programs, and mentoring future fire instructors. He also enjoys cycling any chance he gets.

 

Cheryl Johnson

Cheryl has been deeply involved with BPN since 2013 as a counselor at Camp Susquehanna. Her professional background includes serving as the Executive Administrator for the Community Development Department at Dollar Bank. Cheryl has seen firsthand how BPN changes lives, making her eager to take on a leadership role in furthering its mission.

What inspires Cheryl about BPN? She is passionate about the way BPN not only prevents burn injuries but also provides life-changing support for survivors. Watching campers grow into confident young adults at Camp Susquehanna has reinforced her belief in BPN’s impact.

Outside of BPN: Cheryl loves spending time with her niece, Tommie, reading, and volunteering at her local animal shelter.

 

Beau Crowding

With over 35 years in emergency services, Beau retired as the Director of Operations for the Chester County Department of Emergency Services and now serves as the Director of Emergency Services at BELFOR Property Restoration. His career has been dedicated to disaster recovery, emergency response coordination, and community preparedness.

What inspires Beau about BPN? Having seen firsthand the devastating effects of burns, Beau believes in the power of education and prevention. He is passionate about BPN’s work in spreading life-saving fire safety messages and providing resources for survivors.

Outside of BPN: Beau enjoys cycling and traveling, always looking for new adventures. He remains actively involved in organizations supporting emergency responders and trauma victims.

 

Chas McGarvey

Chas brings extensive experience in fire safety and emergency response. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he has served as Pennsylvania’s State Fire Commissioner, Chief Fire Officer for Lower Merion Township, and Fire Marshal. Currently, he is the Director of New Business Development at ServPro – Team Fabiani, where he continues to engage with the first responder community.

What inspires Chas about BPN? Chas was introduced to BPN through his work as State Fire Commissioner. He is particularly drawn to BPN’s efforts to empower burn survivors and their families.

Outside of BPN: Chas enjoys golfing and refereeing lacrosse. He also likes to bike and participate in the annual Ben2theshore 65 mile ride to support the Families Behind the Badge foundation.

We are thrilled to welcome these incredible individuals to the BPN Board of Directors. Their expertise, dedication, and passion will help us continue to make a difference in the lives of burn survivors and in the prevention of burn injuries. We look forward to the impact they will have on our mission!
