Fiscal Transparency

While tedious paperwork, double-checking numbers, adhering to compliance rules, and meticulously inputting gifts into databases might not seem like the most enjoyable parts of Burn Prevention Network’s mission, we recognize that being financially accountable to donors is crucial to our mission of reducing the risk of burns and empowering burn survivors. BPN staff enjoy watching preschoolers learn to recognize hot objects. We cherish the life-changing moments with campers at Camp Susquehanna. We enjoy hearing from new mothers who are grateful for tips on ways to keep their family safe. All these things are only made possible with responsible financial management and the ongoing trust and support of our donors
Last year, Burn Prevention Network’s Finance Committee, chaired by Russ Clelland, CTP, MBA, the retired Vice President and Treasurer of Talen Energy, began seeking options to provide the highest quality bookkeeping and accounting for the organization while keeping costs reasonable. Executive Director, Corissa Rolon, MA CFRE, teamed up with the committee on a nationwide search for a new vendor and found The Charity CFO, a national company based in St Louis. This innovative organization is the national leader in providing the highest quality bookkeeping and accounting services to small non-profits. It was founded by Tosha Anderson, CPA, MBA, a previous non-profit auditor, CFO, board member, volunteer and consultant.
The Charity CFO brought in a team of expert nonprofit accountants, auditors, and CFOs with a breadth of accounting skillsets that are impossible to replicate with a single in-house employee. They modernized processes, updated asset lists, worked with Burn Prevention Network’s auditing firm to create GL codes that more accurately reflected expenses and income categories, and created a monthly statement package template – complete with an expert executive analysis of Burn Prevention Network’s financial position.
“Charity CFO provides the Burn Prevention Network with timely and accurate financial data and analysis that enables us to make sound financial decisions and operating adjustments to ensure we meet the Burn Prevention Network’s mission and accomplish the expectations of our donors” said Clelland.
Burn Prevention Network is grateful for the daily support of Reid LeHew, the Senior Associate Accountant who manages day-to-day needs, and Pat Fisher, CPA, the Charity CFO’s Chief Financial Officer who reviews monthly reports and manages the annual budgeting process. We are equally thankful to all the Charity CFO team members – those who have helped with individual projects and those that are available if questions arise.
