Why it's important to donate to The Burn Prevention Network

"My name is Amber Shuker, I am 10 years old and on December 1, 1999 I had a fire that destroyed my house and me and my sister got out quick enough by using the steps that I learned in the demonstration of the fire house at the Monarch Fire Company. When the house started to fill up with smoke and when the smoke detector went off, the fire house taught me that you should stay low to the floor and know where your exits are. After we got out we called 911 and we got as far away as we could. My sister and I were both treated for smoke inhalation. Thank you for your demonstration of the fire house. I learned a lot from the fire house. Without that demonstration it could have been a lot worse."

Amber Shukar, Blandon, PA Alex, an area third grade student, is alive and healthy today because of the programs of the Burn Prevention Network. Alex and his classmates had a fun time when the Fire Safety House visited their school. The class learned how the family should plan and practice an escape route in case of a home fire, and how to stay low, below the smoke to exit the house. That evening, Alex told his parents about his exciting learning experience, and encouraged them to practice an escape plan. Thankfully, Alex and this family did practice, because three weeks later they all escaped a house fire at two in the morning.

You may never know when or why a fire will happen. Burn Prevention Network offers educational programs and activities designed to help prevent fires and burns to people of all ages. Your monetary contribution will help us deliver our programs, materials, workshops, and special youth educational activities to over 150,000 people in our 20 county service area. And you will be part of the reason why we continue to get letters from people of all ages, like the one above.
