Burn Care Seminar for First Responders

Rationale

To be proficient in their area of expertise, Emergency Medical Service professionals must continually monitor developments in treatment, care and procedure for a range of injuries and trauma. They are also required to participate in periodic training and qualification procedures to maintain their licensing and position. One of the most complex and specialized injury-treatment areas is that of emergency burn treatment. Having supplemental, current information on the proper treatment procedures for burn victims is vital in providing the best possible treatment immediately after the injury and in transit to a hospital or burn center.

Learning Objectives

Burn Prevention Foundation's Burn Care Seminar for First Responders provides emergency care providers with additional knowledge about, and current procedural developments for, the proper treatment of burns and their associated complications.

Description

This lecture-based, 3-4 hour seminar provides updated methods of care at the accident scene, during transport, and at the hospital. Other possible topics discussed include:

  • Smoke Inhalation, Respiratory Burn Injury, and Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
  • Kinematics and Mechanisms of Trauma Injury which is not as closely related to burns but is still relevant, may also be presented.
Continuing Education Units (1.5 hrs.) are usually awarded to participants.

Target Participants

Emergency Medical Service (EMS), fire, rescue, paramedic, and hospital emergency department personnel, all professionals who would need this knowledge and expertise for treating burn-injured patients.
